A broken bone.... or wrist in this case. I guess I can't brag anymore about raising six children without a broken bone... The story behind this one is pretty cute though...
Blondie... well anyone who knows us, knows that Blondie is 13 and completely boy crazy. I would be stunned if she went 10 minutes without talking about some boy or another. She is also obsessed with romance... She is dreaming, big time, of that 14 year old asking her to a dance, walking her down the halls at school, holding her hand.... We women remember those days. I remember those same dreams and the same goofy, girlie, daydreams that filled my days.
Blondie probably dreams a bit more than the rest of us.... OK no probably, the girl lives in a dream world.
Blondie is also into running. She loves to run. She is not athletic at all, as far as coordination goes... but endurance... she has endurance.... so cross country is a sport she loves and gets better and better all the time. She runs 2-5 miles everyday and loves it.
So we have a girl, who loves boys, loves to daydream, and loves to run... yes this is all building to an incredibly funny ending.
Sometimes, at the pool for instance, we would catch Blondie staring at a High School boy... and attempting to walk at the same time.... Just like a TV commercial, he would walk by and her head would turn, watching him in a dazed, hypnotic state. Luckily, she somehow managed not to walk straight into the pool. One of the life guards had Fabio hair... you know, blond hair that blew in the wind. Poor Blondie could hardly breath when a gently breeze rustled his blond locks.
He was also a sweet kid who talked to every single child in the pool and knew them by name. When he said "Hello Blondie, how are you today?". Her little heart melted.
So now you have an image of our boy crazed, daydreaming, barely teen aged daughter....
Imagine her doing her stretches, while the boys ran on the track. Suddenly the coach tells them to get running.... But wait coach, the boys are still on the track.... Normally coach waited for the Jr. High boys to get off the track, before sending the girls on. Not today. Poor Blondie, how in the world could she focus on running... with all those 14 year old boys running around her. Her poor daydream filled mind was on overtime. I truly can visualize her head following one boy, then another, as romance filled dreams of the cutest of the boys running towards her, arms outreached..... then Slam Bam.... she whams into him. You see, he wasn't que'd in on the daydream. He had no idea this girl was in a daydream... running towards him as if they were in a field of flowers, desperately running towards each other dream that held her entranced. This poor boy was just trying to break his personal record.... until this 13 year old zoombie girl ran him down. They collided... she fell... tried to catch herself... wrist broke.
Now if that isn't a picture... lets go on.... Does Blondie cry? Scream? NO.... Blondie is still in her trance... after all he touched her... even helped her up. She finishes her fun... then takes her weirdly angled wrist to her coach and says...."Coach I think I might have hurt my wrist when I ran into Cutie-Boy". Coach says.... "I think you may have sprained it, lets call your mom OK". He later told me it was very obviously broken but he didn't want to scare her. No kidding it was obviously broken. He also told me he could not believe she finished the run before coming to him. He said that bouncing must have been horribly painful, yet Blondie wasn't crying at all. What a tough little girl we have.... seriously... he said that.... little did he know she was drugged to the limit with boy fantasies...
I guess being in a romantic trance is a bigger pain killer than any drug....
And now... I am sure the whole team... including all the Cutie-Boys, will want to sign her cast. Oh my the daydreams she has been experiencing all weekend. I swear, she is happy her arm is broken. She can't wait to go to school Monday. She has walked the entire neighborhood. If you try to call and the phone is busy... Blondie thought of someone else she has not called to tell about her broken arm... Only a boy crazy girl can get excited about the "boy attention" a broken arm might create.... Oh my.
Living thru our first broken bone.... been there... done that
