What I hope for my kids....

Last night my teens were disappointed. Well of course they were... this was the first election that they were ever really involved with emotionally. In the past, their schools let them vote and their candidate always won. This was not only their first loss, but the first time they wanted someone to win who didn't.

Being teens, they vocalized their upset.....

Being parents, we tried to guide them a different way.

We tried to emphasize that it is OK to be upset that your favorite lost, but not so upset that you cannot support and stand behind the person who will lead your country. Never let anger control you or take over your life to the degree that you cannot appreciate the wonderful gift our government is.... and how blessed we are to be citizens of this country.

We asked each if they truly, 100% believed, they could be President one day.... we got, "I don't know... maybe... I guess". But no passionate "Yes I can".

We then said, "Imagine how much harder it would be to feel passionately, that you could be President, if there had never been a white president... only black presidents.....".

We tried to stress that this is monumental, the way that this win will inspire kids all over the US to once again believe they CAN. And even if Pres Elect Obama was not our number 1 Choice... he now deserves our entire support. This doesn't mean we blindly agree with everything he might try to do. It doesn't mean we won't try to get our Senators and House members to stand up to things we disagree with. What it does mean is he is ours.... and we will proudly proclaim him as our President.

I closed it by saying.... "Your Dad and I sometimes criticize you kids... we tease you about your faults.... But if anyone else does... we attack like a Momma Bear. You are ours. That is kinda what we are saying.... we may complain about Pres Elect Obama's differing views... differing passions... but we will protect this man who leads us and stand up to those who might try to slander him."

What do I want for my kids... I want them to feel the passion and protection I feel toward the leader of our country. And as such, I am ashamed at how I did not protect Pres. Bush because I simply did not want to fight those who were so angry. But now, rather than live in regret, it is more important that I raise children who do not live in a haze of anger when elections do not go their way. I want children who put their country first and that means supporting this countries Commander in Chief.

President Bush... may you and your wife, one of the most graceful women ever to grace the White House.... enjoy every minute of your retirement..... One day, I truly believe you will be hailed as the President who finally said no to terrorism... who finally said, "I will sacrifice myself, my reputation... I will be the most hated President in people's memory. But I will protect this country from those who want to destroy it". During his time Lincoln stood up, was hated too.... and now, he is rightly respected as the man who finally started this country in a new direction in regards to slavery. President Bush... he started our country in a different direction in regards to terrorism. Both saw that some things are worth fighting for... are worth standing up against.

President Elect Obama.... even though I did not support you as a candidate, I have to admit, I am curious and a bit anxious to see if you really will make historical changes in this country. Can you really unite this country? Can we eliminate the "Jerry Springer" governing approach? Can we get back to working together instead of viciously attacking? I am not sure any person can undo what has been done.... But I am ready to watch you try. For my children's sake, I truly hope you can lead in a new, united direction. I must admit, picturing your children playing in the White House is heart warming. What you have achieve, and how it will affect the children of our land is simply amazing. You have a very rough road ahead... and for my part, I don't want to make it harder on you. I want my country to succeed. I want it to grow stronger. I don't want to see it weakened by anger any longer. I would love to drain the fuel from all the black helicopters... at least for the next 3.5 years.... While I can almost promise I won't always agree with your decisions, we believe too differently on a lot of issues, plus I have yet to agree with all the decisions of any President in my memory... I can promise you that you will have my respect and my protection as the President of this country, and that my children will see this in me!!! In closing, please know that you are no longer "that man", you are now "Our Man". You and your family will be in our prayers.

And this is what I hope for my kids.... that they can learn the above patriotism....that they can see my own personal views of what patriotism is, in my own actions and daily life.

Committing myself to four Patriotic years, committing myself to demonstrating Patriotism even when my candidate lost, refusing to be an Angry American... Honoring "Our Man", President Elect Obama (not my first choice but no less my President).... been there.... done that....

Back from long vacation....

Yeah, I know, strange time to take a vacation from blogging, but I needed it. You see.... I like to be happy, even when things are not going the way I would like them to go....

Sometimes, when I feel myself becoming negative, I have to remove myself from the negative, and get my balance and priorities back in order....

I love elections. I have enjoyed this election. I loved seeing my kids get into elections. I love watching them read news articles and tune into Fox News and CNN. It has been amazing watching their brains churning thru all they hear and forming their own thoughts... Their priorities in life do not always mimic mine, but they are developing strong reasoning skills and it makes me proud.

So if I was having so much fun... why did I leave? Good questions.... I felt I was becoming bitter, frustrated with the lack of news on most networks.... the accusations towards conservatives.... and I just do not like being that type of person.

After a break, I have my priorities back in order and I am happy to serve either candidate once they win the election. No matter who wins, they deserve my support, they deserve my prayers... they will be in a tough position with a tough situation and they will need America behind them.... even if we disagree.

I will be saddened by some of the things that happen I am certain... but I can be sad and supportive at the same time.

Now for funny... which we all know I enjoy.... check out this clip. Also, some cute kids stories to come.... with pictures of course. It will be nice getting back to be a traditional mom and not a politically obsessed freak. And now, a four year break, where I can pray for and support whichever person wins.... before I have to become passionately obsessed again.
